Small and medium sized businesses make up the backbone of the British economy. 5.4 million of these companies account for 99.9% of all private sector businesses and employ over 60% of all private sector workers – 15.6 million people.

Yet, for too long, these businesses have been treated as one homogenous group, despite the many differences in their size, sector and stage of lifecycle. In reality, no two companies are the same.

It is important to understand how to cater for the differences between business sectors and sizes and to address each SME’s distinct planning challenges. Specialist knowledge and bespoke approaches are key to helping individual businesses choose the right products and plan in the right way and getting rid of the ‘one size fits all’ SME mind set is the first step to helping the UK’s smaller companies to thrive.
